History and culture
Lafayette Miners Museum
108 E. Simpson Street
Run by the Lafayette Historical Society, this museum was originally built around 1895 and served as home to miners working in the Gladstone Mine. The house was transferred to its present location around 1910 when the mine was shut down. It now showcases relics of Lafayette’s colorful past.
Old Town Lafayette

Waneka Lake Park

The center of almost all outdoor activities in Lafayette is this beautiful lake. The lake trail here goes on for more than a mile in a loop and connects to several other trails leading to other recreation spots, including the Greenlee Wildlife Preserve. There are areas for picnics, as well as other park facilities. The waters are also available for fishing and watersports like kayaking and paddleboarding. Should you need a boat, you can rent one at the Waneka Lake Boathouse.

Lafayette Oatmeal Festival and Virtual 5k Run
Lafayette always has something to celebrate — one of these is their healthy lifestyle. So, after some postponements due to COVID-19 concerns, this festival is pushing through by January 8, 2022. And since oatmeal is best served during breakfast, activities come full swing at The Gatehouse from 8 AM to 12 noon.
August is peach time at Lafayette with the festival that celebrates the harvest of these succulent fruits. After celebrating it this year in the north parking lot of Waneka Parkway, the festival is returning in 2022 to its original site at Public Road in Old Town. Residents and visitors will be treated to various activities to boost the festival feel but the stars of the show will still be the peaches, pies, cobblers, and other peach-infused products for sale.
