Safely re-welcome guests to your home this pandemic

COVID-19 restrictions have begun easing in most parts of the United States. Some cities even now allow small private gatherings. For people who love hosting and throwing parties, this progress is most welcome.

As of the time of writing, most of Colorado is on Level Orange: High Risk. Private gatherings where there’s a maximum of 10 people and/or two separate households are allowed. Still, people are highly encouraged to stay at home.

If you are thinking about welcoming people into your home, it is best to take precautions to ensure everyone’s safety. Thankfully, there are ways to gather and have fun in a safe and protected way.

Consider a virtual gathering

The best way to ensure everyone’s safety is to take your party online. Just because you and your loved ones aren’t physically together doesn’t mean that you can’t have a good time. To throw a virtual party, plan games and activities. You can also send your guests food to eat during your virtual hangout.

If you are still looking to invite some friends over to your home, it is a good idea to make the virtual party option available for those who can’t make it.

Take the party outside

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (the CDC), it is safer to host gatherings outdoors than it is to throw a get-together in an enclosed space. After all, social distancing is a lot easier to maintain outdoors.

Check the local guidelines first to see if parties outside are allowed. Under Level Orange in Colorado, it’s best to follow social distancing guidelines, limit the number of guests to 10, and keep the party between two households.

It is a good idea to consider the temperature before planning your party. If the weather is pleasant and cool, an afternoon picnic is a great idea. Consequently, if it is too hot in the morning, an outdoor movie night with popcorn and a good flick is sure to be a hit!

Set up clear seating areas

Despite social distancing being the norm for the last ten months, there are people who still forget to maintain an appropriate distance from each other.

Make sure everyone is a safe distance away from each other by setting up seating areas beforehand. Make sure that these options are well within the CDC’s social distancing guidelines.

Maintain a close circle

Given the state’s guideline on the number of guests for private gatherings, it’s best to confine it to a close circle or a “pod.” It’s a great way to ensure everyone gets their social needs met in a safe manner.

Everyone in the pod should be aware of everyone else’s risk profile and tolerance. To lessen the likelihood of infecting anyone in the pod with COVID-19, limit social interactions with people outside the group.
